At least 11 people have died in a tragic fire at a mosque in the Gezawa area of Nigeria's northern Kano state. The blaze, which also left dozens injured, occurred on Thursday, May 17, according to a report by the BBC.

The incident unfolded when an individual locked the mosque doors from the outside and set it ablaze using petrol. Approximately 40 worshipers were trapped inside the mosque at the time of the attack.

Authorities believe the attack stemmed from a family dispute over property division. A 38-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

The local community is reeling from the tragedy as investigations continue to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the fire.
