The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura due to the severe impact of Cyclone Remal in the Bay of Bengal. The IMD's social media post on X indicated that these northeastern states are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on May 27, with expected precipitation reaching up to 204.4 millimeters.

In response to the cyclone, authorities have announced the closure of Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Port in Kolkata. All cargo and container handling operations at the port will be suspended for 12 hours on Sunday to ensure safety.

Additionally, the IMD warned of heavy rainfall in West Bengal, particularly affecting coastal low-lying areas. To mitigate risks, flight operations at Kolkata airport will be halted for 21 hours due to the cyclone.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has also issued a special notification, indicating that Cyclone Remal has strengthened into a severe cyclone. Payra and Mongla seaports in Bangladesh have been instructed to display distress signal number 10, while Chittagong and Cox's Bazar seaports have been advised to show distress signal number 9.

As of 6 am on Sunday, Cyclone Remal was located 400 km southwest of Chittagong seaport, 360 km southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport, 330 km south of Mongla seaport, and 295 km south of Payra seaport.

Authorities in both India and Bangladesh are closely monitoring the situation, urging residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions to ensure safety amidst the severe weather conditions.
