The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a resounding victory in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections, claiming 46 out of the 60 seats. The landslide win ensures BJP's return to power in the state.
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) also retained power in Sikkim, securing 31 out of 32 seats in the assembly, marking their second consecutive term in office.
Expressing gratitude to the voters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to thank Arunachal Pradesh for choosing BJP and expressed commitment to the state's development.
Out of the 60 assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh, BJP secured 46, with 10 victories coming unopposed. The National People's Party (NPP) won five seats, while NCP secured three. Additionally, two seats were clinched by the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA), and Congress managed to secure one seat. Three independent candidates also emerged victorious.
According to BJP sources cited by Anandabazar Patrika, Pema Khandu is set to continue as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
Voting in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, comprising 32 assembly seats, took place on April 19, concurrent with polling for two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh and the single seat in Sikkim. While assembly votes were counted on Sunday, Lok Sabha poll results in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will be announced on Tuesday.
The victory underscores BJP's stronghold in Arunachal Pradesh, with the party consolidating power despite facing opposition from Congress and NPP. The results mark a significant triumph for BJP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha poll results, reflecting the party's popularity and dominance in the region.
