Beirut, June 30 2024 — The Lebanon-based armed group Hezbollah has been removed from the Arab League's list of terrorist organizations, according to a report by Turkish media outlet Anadolu Agency.

Arab League Assistant Secretary General Hossam Zaki announced this decision on Saturday. Speaking on the Egyptian Al-Cahra news channel following his visit to Beirut, Zaki stated, "Previously, the Arab League decision listed Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. However, the member states of the League agreed that Hezbollah should no longer be considered a terrorist organization."

Zaki also mentioned that the conditions for establishing relations between the Arab League member states and Hezbollah have been met.

The Arab League had initially designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization on March 11, 2016. It is believed that Hezbollah's active role in fighting alongside Palestinians against the Israeli military (IDF) and their efforts to prevent massacres in Gaza have garnered significant support among the people of Arab countries. This widespread approval may have influenced the Arab League's decision to remove Hezbollah from the list of terrorist groups.
