The Joint Chief of Staff of the nation said that many missiles were fired from the east coast. It did not, however, say precisely how many. The kind of missile that was fired is being examined. Pyongyang launched a new breed of cruise missile, the Pull-Hosal 3, last Wednesday.

Seoul, however, has declared that there would be more surveillance in the area. The United States and other countries are monitoring the situation together. In recent months, North Korea has increased the frequency of its missile launches.

The action is thought to be a reaction to joint patrols and exercises between the US and South Korea. Seoul and Washington, though, claim to have information suggesting Pyongyang is not planning to use force.
