"The strike happened in northeast Jordan, close to the Syrian border, where American forces have traditionally utilized Jordan as a base location"

U.S. Central Command confirmed on Sunday that a drone strike on an outpost in northeast Jordan, close to the Syrian border, resulted in the deaths of three American service personnel and the injuries of 25 others.

"A one-way UAS strike that struck a base in northeast Jordan, close to the Syrian border, on January 28 resulted in the deaths of three U.S. military personnel and the injuries of 25 others. According to DoD protocol and out of consideration for the families, the service members' identities will not be disclosed until twenty-four hours following notification to their next of kin, CENTCOM stated.

According to the White House, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer briefed President Biden on the attack on Sunday morning. This was a significant escalation because it was the first time American troops had been killed by an enemy attack in the Middle East since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The strike happened in northeast Jordan, close to the Syrian border, where American forces have traditionally utilized Jordan as a base location.

The Wall Street Journal quoted an American official to report that the attack took place at Tower 22, a small outpost in northeast Jordan near Al Tanf Garrison in southeast Syria, where American forces have been working with local allies to fight Islamic State militants. The Defense Department has not confirmed the precise location of the attack.

America is grieving on Sunday. "An unmanned aerial drone attack on our forces stationed in northeast Jordan near the Syria border resulted in the deaths of three U.S. service members and numerous injuries last night," he added.

"While we are still gathering the facts of this attack, we know it was carried out by radical Iran-backed militant groups operating in Syria and Iraq."
