New Delhi, 12 July - Torrential rains have caused severe flooding in Uttar Pradesh, India, inundating over 600 villages across 12 districts and resulting in the deaths of 19 people within the last 24 hours. The deaths were attributed to various causes: 16 from lightning strikes, two from drowning, and one from a snakebite. The state’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, is personally overseeing the examination of the flood situation in affected villages.

Efforts are underway to rescue residents trapped in the flooded areas. According to state government sources, 712 relief camps have been established across the flood-affected regions to provide shelter and aid to the victims. However, ongoing heavy rains are hampering relief and rescue operations.

Simultaneously, Himachal Pradesh is also experiencing extreme suffering due to heavy rains. In the past two weeks, 22 people have died due to various rain-related incidents. The fatalities include eight drownings in flood waters, six landslide-related deaths, four electrocutions, and three snakebites. Additionally, two people remain missing in the flood waters. The total damage in flood-affected areas is estimated to be around 172 crore rupees.

As the monsoon season continues, both states are grappling with the challenges of providing relief and ensuring the safety of their residents amidst ongoing adverse weather conditions. The state governments are working diligently to mitigate the impact and provide necessary assistance to those affected.
