Kolkata, August 3 — Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, India, has been experiencing significant waterlogging due to heavy rains. The downpour has affected several parts of the city, including Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport, where rainwater accumulated on the runway and taxiway. Despite the flooding, air traffic has not been disrupted.

Videos shared on social media depict the airport's runways submerged in water. In addition to Kolkata, heavy rainfall has also been reported in neighboring areas such as Howrah, Salt Lake, and Barrackpore. The heavy rains are a result of a low-pressure system that developed into a deep depression, which is now moving towards Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for various regions, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in different parts of the country. The persistent rains have also impacted other areas, including Delhi, where widespread waterlogging has occurred.

Last week, a tragic incident in Delhi highlighted the severity of the weather conditions, as three students lost their lives after water entered the basement of a coaching center. The incident sparked protests among the public, demanding better infrastructure and safety measures during the monsoon season.

The authorities are urging residents in affected areas to exercise caution and remain alert as the heavy rainfall continues.
