Delhi, August 6 - India's Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, has confirmed that India is closely monitoring the situation in Bangladesh following the resignation and departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Speaking after a discussion with various Indian political parties on Tuesday, Jaishankar revealed that Hasina is currently in Delhi, housed in a safe location. He noted that she is "mentally disturbed" due to recent events and has been given time to rest. The Indian government is awaiting her decision on future plans.

The Indian Foreign Minister emphasized that contact is being maintained with the Bangladesh Army, reflecting India's concern over the stability of its neighboring country. Jaishankar assured that the Indian government is prepared to take appropriate actions when necessary and is closely watching the border situation, which he described as currently stable.

In the discussion, Jaishankar highlighted India's priority of ensuring the safety of its citizens, particularly around 10,000 Indian students currently residing in Bangladesh. Although there are no immediate plans for an evacuation, preparations are in place should the need arise.

The Indian government remains committed to taking the "right steps at the right time" to safeguard its interests and maintain regional stability. Jaishankar's statement underscores India's vigilant stance and readiness to respond to any developments in Bangladesh.
