Hudeida, August 9 — Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in the northern region of Yemen, resulting in flash floods that have claimed the lives of at least 45 people. The devastating floods, which have persisted for a week, have severely impacted communities, particularly in Hudeida and Makbanah.

As of Thursday, August 8, local authorities confirmed that 30 people had perished in Hudeida, while 15 others lost their lives in the Makbanah area. Additionally, five individuals remain missing, and rescue operations are ongoing to locate them.

The relentless downpour has displaced hundreds of residents, with reports indicating that at least 500 families have been forced to abandon their homes. The floods have also destroyed numerous houses, particularly those with weak infrastructure, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
