New Delhi, August 15 – India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep concern over the security of the Hindu community in Bangladesh, stating that 1.4 billion Indians are worried about the safety of the minority community in the neighboring country.

In a speech delivered at the Red Fort in Delhi on the occasion of India's Independence Day, Modi highlighted the anxieties shared by many Indians regarding recent developments in Bangladesh. "As a neighboring country, I can understand the concern about what happened in Bangladesh," Modi remarked, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and security of minority communities.

This statement marks Modi's first public comment on Bangladesh since the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5. Following her resignation, Sheikh Hasina reportedly sought refuge in India. Modi's remarks on Thursday were the first time the Indian head of government addressed the situation in Bangladesh since then.

"I hope the situation will return to normal soon," Modi said, expressing optimism for stability in Bangladesh. He also extended India's continued support for the development and progress of Bangladesh, underlining the importance of strong bilateral relations between the two nations.

The statement reflects India's broader concerns about regional stability and the well-being of minority communities in South Asia, particularly in light of recent political changes in Bangladesh.
