Bamako, August 30- At least 14 people have died, and 29 others were seriously injured in a tragic head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Mali. The accident occurred around 6 a.m. on Thursday near the town of Fana, located east of the capital city, Bamako.
According to the African Press Agency, which cited the country's Ministry of Transport, the accident happened as the bus was traveling from Fana to Bamako. It collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured were transported to the Fana Health Centre for urgent medical treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision. Road accidents are a frequent occurrence in Mali, often attributed to the poor state of the transportation infrastructure and the prevalence of illegal driving practices.
This incident follows a similar tragedy in July, where 16 people lost their lives in a collision between two buses in central Mali. The government continues to face challenges in improving road safety and reducing the number of fatal accidents on the country's highways.
