Dhaka, Sep 21 (V7N) – The Biden administration recently held an official meeting with Sikh separatist groups supporting the Khalistan movement, just before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in the United States, NDTV reports.

Modi is set to attend the Quad summit in Delaware and the 'Summit of the Future' at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

For the first time, the White House engaged with pro-Khalistan organizations, including the American Sikh Caucus Committee, during this meeting on Saturday. The discussion, attended by senior federal officials, focused on protecting Sikh Americans from any "transnational aggression."

This move by the Biden administration, while welcomed by Sikh groups, raises diplomatic concerns as India has long been critical of foreign nations harboring separatist elements linked to the Khalistan movement, which India associates with terrorism.

The timing of the meeting also coincides with US Congressman Adam Schiff introducing the 'Transnational Repression Reporting Act 2024,' aimed at addressing foreign repression of individuals in the US, a bill supported by pro-Khalistan groups.
