Dhaka, Aug 13 (V7N) – BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that a religious political party is conducting propaganda campaigns against the BNP to cover up its own misdeeds.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan political office on Wednesday morning, Rizvi dismissed recent viral claims in Chittagong involving a doctor. He said the doctor was not a victim of extortion but had faced official action for constructing a building outside approved designs. “No one attacked him – he came live with paint on his nose to spread false propaganda against BNP leaders and activists,” Rizvi claimed.

Condemning the killing of two members of a traditional religious community in Rangpur by a mob, Rizvi likened mob violence to “cancer” and urged the enactment of laws to prevent individuals from taking the law into their own hands.

He also accused the former Awami League government of failing to recover over Tk 2,000 crore allegedly looted from Farmers Bank, now operating as Padma Bank. “There is no trace of that money,” he said, calling for sincere efforts to recover the funds.

On the proportional representation (PR) voting system, Rizvi said the people of Bangladesh are “not ready” for it, and those advocating for the change are attempting to create unnecessary complications.

Rizvi announced that a doa mahfil will be held nationwide, including in Dhaka, on Friday to mark BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s birthday. Prayers will also be offered for the martyrs of the democratic movement.
