Narayanganj, Jan 11 (V7N) — Eight workers were injured in a boiler explosion at Akij Cement Factory in the Kadamrasul area of Bandar Upazila on Saturday around 5:45 pm. The incident caused significant damage, including shattered glass walls in several factory rooms, and sparked panic among workers and nearby residents.
According to Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mukhtar Ashraf, the explosion occurred inside the factory’s boiler room. The victims suffered burns on parts of their bodies and injuries from flying glass fragments.
The injured workers have been identified as Md. Hannan (45), Md. Manjur (28), Md. Habib (43), Md. Rakibul (25), Md. Khorshed (35), Tarek (26), Ferdous (35), and one unidentified worker. They were initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute for further care.
OC Golam Mukhtar confirmed that all injured workers are currently stable and out of life-threatening danger.
Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, stated that the patients were brought to the emergency department shortly after the explosion, and the extent of their burns is still being evaluated.
An official from Akij Cement Factory, requesting anonymity, said immediate steps were taken following the explosion. The company assured that the injured workers are receiving proper medical attention and that the situation is under control.
The incident raises concerns about safety protocols at industrial sites, highlighting the risks faced by factory workers in the region. Local authorities and factory management are reportedly reviewing safety measures to prevent future accidents.
