Dhaka, Oct 1 (V7N): Following the recent decision to grant magistracy powers to Bangladesh Army officers, the government has extended this authority to commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Navy.

In a circular issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on 29 September, the government amended a previous notification from 17 September, which initially granted the power to Bangladesh Army officers. The new circular now grants magistracy powers to commissioned officers of all branches of the armed forces.

The earlier notification, issued on 17 September, permitted eligible Army officers to serve as executive magistrates across the country for 60 days. These officers are empowered to handle specific offences under Sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 (CrPC).

The same conditions outlined in the previous order have been maintained in this latest circular.
