Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N) — Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain emphasized that the only sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis is to send the refugees back to Myanmar. He further stated that Bangladesh is hopeful that China will play a more active and sincere role in facilitating this process.

Hossain made these remarks during a function held at an elite hotel in the capital on Monday morning, where Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen was also present.

Touhid Hossain stressed that Bangladesh is relying on China, given its influence in Myanmar, to mediate and push for the safe repatriation of the Rohingyas. Over one million Rohingya refugees currently reside in Bangladesh, having fled persecution and violence in Myanmar.

In response, Ambassador Yao Wen reaffirmed China's support for Bangladesh during its crises, noting that Chinese officials and business personnel remained in Bangladesh even during challenging periods like the Covid-19 pandemic and the July movement . The ambassador highlighted the strength of Dhaka-Beijing relations, assuring that China's commitment to Bangladesh remains steadfast.

The issue of Rohingya repatriation has been a pressing challenge for Bangladesh, and international cooperation, particularly from powerful neighbors like China, is seen as crucial to resolving the humanitarian crisis.
