Dhaka, Oct 26 (V7N)- Bangladesh Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman has announced that any army personnel found guilty of human rights violations while deployed with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be excluded from United Nations peacekeeping missions. The statement came after his bilateral meeting with UN officials in New York, as reported by the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday night.

During his U.S. visit, General Waqar met with key UN peacekeeping officials, including Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix of the UN Department of Peace Operations and other senior UN officials. The discussions involved Bangladesh’s ongoing contributions to UN peacekeeping and the potential for increasing Bangladeshi representation at policy-making and command levels.

The UN officials commended Bangladeshi peacekeepers' commitment, with special appreciation for their contributions to stability and humanitarian assistance worldwide.

In addition to the peacekeeping discussions, General Waqar highlighted Bangladesh’s socio-economic and stability efforts, particularly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, aligning these with the goals of the interim government. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to supporting peace and stability both domestically and internationally.
