Dhaka, Oct 27 (V7N) — Jute and Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain announced that jute production will be restricted if there is a shortage in jute bag manufacturing, adding that jute exports may also be controlled if necessary.

He made these remarks during an exchange of views with journalists at his office on Sunday. Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan was also present at the event.

Sakhawat Hossain emphasized the importance of adopting jute bags, saying, “I have bought two jute bags—one stays in the car, the other at home. This needs to become a habit. Polythene has not been effectively stopped for a long time, but now it will be. Jute bags must be used.”

Meanwhile, Environmental Advisor Rizwana Hasan highlighted the upcoming restrictions on polythene bags. “From November 1, polythene shopping bags will no longer be available in markets across the country,” she stated, clarifying that the ban will apply only to shopping bags and not all types of polyethylene products.

The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability and revive the use of eco-friendly jute products, aligning with national efforts to reduce plastic waste.
