Dhaka, Nov 10 (V7N)- The Advisory Council of Bangladesh's interim government is set to expand today as five new advisors take their oath of office. President Md. Shahabuddin will administer the oath at Bangabhaban at 7 p.m., marking the latest additions to Dr. Muhammad Yunus's advisory team established after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5.

The incoming advisors are renowned film director Mostafa Sarwar Farooqui, special assistant to the chief advisor Mahfuz Alam, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khodabox Chowdhury, Akij-Bashir Group Managing Director Sheikh Bashir Uddin, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Vice Chancellor Dr. Saidur Rahman. However, due to illness, Khodabox Chowdhury will not be taking the oath today.

Currently, the Advisory Council has 21 members, some of whom are managing multiple portfolios. With the induction of the new advisors, there is speculation that responsibilities may be reallocated to streamline the functioning of the ministries.

The interim government, led by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, assumed office on August 5 following a student-led public uprising. Initially, 14 out of 17 advisors took their oath alongside Dr. Yunus. Since then, more advisors joined in successive rounds, bringing the current total to 21. The distribution of portfolios has undergone several adjustments as the council adapts to meet the nation’s governance needs during this transitional period.
