Dhaka, Nov 21 (V7N)- The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), AMM Nasir Uddin, has vowed to restore the people's voting rights through fair and transparent elections. In an interview with Jamuna Television on Thursday afternoon, the CEC emphasized the importance of ensuring that citizens can freely vote for their preferred candidates without interference.

"People could not vote in the last three elections. There has been a farce in the name of elections. It is our responsibility to restore the voting rights of the people. We will set an example through transparent elections," said Nasir Uddin, reflecting on the demands of the victims of the recent student-public movement.

The CEC acknowledged the challenges ahead, such as updating the voter list and implementing electoral reforms. He stated, "Many new challenges will arise daily, and we must work together to face them. The reform commission's report will be instrumental in identifying problems and offering solutions. The sooner the report is submitted, the faster we can advance election preparations."

Nasir Uddin highlighted a shift in political dynamics, noting, "Despite differences of opinion among the political parties, there is now unity on the issue of fair elections. This is a great asset for us, unlike in the past."

He likened the Election Commission's role to that of a referee, ensuring impartiality in overseeing the electoral process. However, when asked about the Awami League's potential participation in the upcoming elections, the CEC declined to comment.

Nasir Uddin's remarks underscore the commission's commitment to restoring public trust in the electoral process and addressing the criticisms of past elections, which were widely regarded as compromised. The Election Commission now faces the critical task of delivering on its promises amidst heightened public expectations.
