Dhaka, Nov 24 (V7N)- Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has emphasized the commitment to avoiding one-sided elections, stating that elections will only be held after necessary reforms are implemented to ensure a level playing field. He shared these views during an interaction with journalists at the Election Building on Sunday.

The CEC assured that a decision regarding election participation would be made once the controversy surrounding the Awami League is resolved. He reiterated the commission’s capability to address any challenges, adding, "We do not believe in one-sided elections. The country has already faced setbacks due to forceful actions in the past. We want to ensure fair, competitive elections that uphold democratic principles."

Addressing questions about the election process, Nasir Uddin said, "Our efforts will aim for 100% fair elections. In the past, dummy elections saw 153 MPs elected without votes. Our goal is to rectify these practices and restore the people's confidence in the electoral system."

The CEC underscored that the commission sees its role as an opportunity to contribute to the nation rather than a challenge. "The interim government has no political affiliation or agenda, which allows us to operate without any pressure," he stated.

With these assurances, the Election Commission aims to create a transparent and equitable electoral process that fosters public trust and upholds democratic integrity.
