Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N) – The Supreme Court (SC) helpline, launched by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, has received 723 calls from justice seekers within two months of its inception, according to official sources.

Md Shariful Islam, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Appellate Division, stated that between its launch on September 25 and November 24, the helpline fielded 723 calls. Of these, 426 were for legal advice, 243 for case information, and 42 for lodging complaints about irregularities, delays, and corruption. Legal actions have been initiated in response to the complaints.

Senior Supreme Court lawyers have hailed the initiative as a milestone. Barrister Salahuddin Dolon noted that it could significantly alleviate the struggles of justice seekers while improving the image of the apex court. He emphasized that implementing the chief justice's announced roadmap would further strengthen judicial independence.

A judicial officer with the rank of assistant registrar oversees the helpline, helping reduce the challenges faced by justice seekers. The service operates Sunday through Thursday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, excluding government holidays, via the helpline number 01316154216.

The chief justice has also issued 12 directives to streamline judicial processes, aiming to enhance fairness and accountability within the judiciary.
