Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) – Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, speaking at the Rajshahi University Law Alumni Association (RULAA) conference on Friday, called for ensuring justice for all citizens.

Addressing the conference as the chief guest at the Shaheed Safiur Rahman Auditorium at the Supreme Court, he emphasized the crucial role of lawyers as the primary defenders of the constitution. “Lawyers represent the voiceless, playing a pivotal role in ensuring justice and truth. They serve as a bridge between the judiciary and the public,” he stated.

The Chief Justice highlighted the longstanding tradition of Rajshahi University's Faculty of Law, with alumni continuing to contribute to public service and justice in Bangladesh.

“We remember the sacrifices made by the martyrs of the War of Liberation, who laid the foundation for an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. We also honor the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising, whose sacrifices ushered in a new Bangladesh, crying for justice,” he added.

Reaffirming his commitment to judicial reform, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed revealed his roadmap for strengthening the judiciary. “We must ensure the independence of the judiciary. I have proposed the establishment of a separate secretariat for the judiciary, a key step in ensuring its administrative autonomy. Additionally, I have suggested the formation of a judicial appointment council to promote transparency and competence in the Supreme Court judges’ appointment process.”
