Dhaka, Jan 02 (V7N) — Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, has urged citizens to take individual responsibility for the country's progress rather than relying entirely on government initiatives. He made this statement during the inauguration of the Walkathon and Social Service Conference, organised by the Department of Social Services, at Manik Mia Avenue on Thursday morning.

"The power of the people is greater than the power of the government," Dr. Yunus declared, highlighting the importance of individual and collective contributions to societal advancement. He emphasised that the Ministry of Social Services serves as a reminder that fulfilling one's responsibilities towards society is a shared duty.

"The aim of observing this day is to ensure that no one forgets their responsibility to society," he added. "Every human being has an innate desire to work for the welfare of others. That desire must be awakened, as there is greater joy in serving others than in working solely for oneself."

Dr. Yunus also encouraged the development of habits that prioritise public welfare in daily life, reinforcing the role of individuals in building a stronger society.

Sharmin S. Murshid, Advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare, and representatives from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also spoke at the event, echoing the call for greater community involvement in social service.

The event underscored the collective effort required to address societal challenges and foster a culture of altruism across the nation.
