It will be feasible to maintain market rates for necessities throughout the next holy month of Ramadan, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Parliament on wednesday.

"I hope it will be possible to control the prices of daily essential goods in the market during the holy month of Ramadan and that price inflation will stay at an acceptable level," she said.

During the Prime Minister's question-and-answer period, Sheikh Hasina, who is also the Leader of the House, made this statement in response to a written inquiry from Bhola-2 MP Ali Azam of the governing party.

She stated that the government's actions will improve the lives of the impoverished, particularly those of low-income groups, widows, elderly people, and disadvantaged families.

According to the prime minister, the current administration is run by the people, and as such, it constantly works to lessen the suffering of the populace.

"The government is doing all within its power to keep the costs of necessities for consumers at their current levels. To a great measure, we have already succeeded in keeping the abnormal increase in consumer prices under control," she continued.

She said that Bangladesh is feeling the effects of inflation on imports as a result of rising costs for consumer goods, industrial raw materials, wheat, fertilizers, fuel oil, edible oil, and other food products on the global market.

In addition, the prime minister stated that several duty exemptions are being offered to lower inflation.
