Dhaka, Aug 11 (V7N)— Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is fully prepared to assist in the upcoming national elections if the Election Commission assigns the elite force to election duties, said RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman.

Speaking to the media on Monday afternoon during a visit to Karwan Bazar as part of an awareness campaign against banned polythene, the RAB chief expressed confidence that law and order will remain stable during the polls.

“RAB is prepared to carry out all necessary duties if the Election Commission gives the task,” Rahman stated.

Addressing environmental concerns, he warned that the use of banned polythene has risen alarmingly despite restrictions. “Some dishonest traders are secretly producing and marketing polythene, posing serious risks to public health and the environment. Our intelligence operations are ongoing to bring those involved under the law,” he said.

The RAB DG emphasized that the fight against illegal polythene use should become a national movement. “To build a sustainable and eco-friendly society, people must be aware of the harmful effects of producing and using banned polythene,” he added.

RAB, in collaboration with the Department of Environment, is conducting joint operations nationwide to curb the illegal production and distribution of polythene. Activities include leaflet distribution, awareness campaigns, and law enforcement drives.

During Monday’s event at Karwan Bazar, RAB personnel distributed leaflets among shopkeepers and traders to promote eco-friendly alternatives. Senior officers from RAB headquarters and officials from the Department of Environment, including Joint Secretary Syed Farhad Hossain (Director of Enforcement), Senior Assistant Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun (Executive Magistrate), and RAB’s Executive Magistrate, were present.

RAB continues regular patrols, surveillance, and operations to combat terrorism, crime, and environmental violations, reinforcing its role in maintaining law and order across the country.
