Dhaka, Feb 07 (V7N) – In light of escalating tensions and recent attacks on political properties, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor to the interim government, has called on citizens to immediately restore law and order across Bangladesh. His remarks were conveyed in a government statement released by his press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, on Friday (February 7).
Dr. Yunus emphasized that no further attacks should be carried out on the properties of Sheikh Hasina’s family, members of the Awami League, or any citizen, regardless of political grievances.
"Respect the Rule of Law to Build a New Bangladesh"
While acknowledging the public anger towards the Awami League regime—citing years of torture and oppression faced by many—Dr. Yunus stressed that lawlessness is not the answer.
“The anger of those who attacked the properties of Awami League leaders is understandable,” the statement read. “They and their relatives have suffered for years under Sheikh Hasina’s regime. But despite understanding this reality, the government urges all citizens to obey the law. We must show the world that we respect the rule of law, distinguishing our new Bangladesh from the old fascist regime.”
He warned that any disregard for legal processes could jeopardize the safety of ordinary citizens and undermine the stability of the country.
Warning Against Provocations and International Manipulation
The Chief Advisor also accused Sheikh Hasina of attempting to activate her loyalists from abroad, particularly by seeking refuge in Delhi.
“We understand that Sheikh Hasina is trying to activate her terrorists even from Delhi,” Yunus claimed. “However, we must not fall into this trap. Attacking properties will only give them an opportunity to attract international attention and spread fabricated stories.”
He insisted that the government is committed to bringing those responsible for crimes against humanity to justice, but warned that violent retaliations could tarnish the image of the current administration and derail the democratic progress made since the mass uprisings in July and August.
Security Forces to Take Strict Action Against Instigators
Dr. Yunus assured citizens that security forces are on high alert and will act swiftly against anyone attempting to incite violence or destabilize the country.
“If anyone engages in provocative activities to create instability, law enforcement will take immediate and strict action. Any attempt to create chaos will be brought to justice.”
He urged the fighters for a just Bangladesh to remain steadfast in their commitment to justice, human rights, and peaceful activism, emphasizing that vigilance and moral integrity are key to preventing the return of the fascist leadership.
"Let Us Build a Bangladesh of Security and Dignity"
In closing, the Chief Advisor appealed to the nation to channel their strength and anger into constructive, peaceful initiatives.
“Let us build a country where all Bangladeshis can live with security and dignity. For this, we must maintain self-control and focus on positive change. The whole world is watching us, and it is with us.”
The statement underscores the interim government's commitment to restoring order and stability while holding former leaders accountable through legal and transparent means.
