Dhaka, Feb 14 (V7N) – Discussions on state reforms with political parties will begin on Saturday, February 15, Industry and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan has announced.
Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the martyrs of the anti-dictatorship movement at Shiksha Chattar near the High Court Gate on Friday morning, Adilur Rahman Khan stated, “We want to restore the rights of the people. With the new system, fascism will no longer be able to rise in Bangladesh.”
Tributes Paid on Anti-Dictatorship Day
Several organizations, including BNP, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Anti-Dictatorship Chhatra Parishad, and leaders of the 1982-1990 student movement, paid tribute to the martyrs of the anti-dictatorship struggle.
BNP Chairperson’s political advisor Aman Ullah Aman called for unity among political parties, stating that the struggles against the dictatorships of 1990 and 2024 share the same fundamental principles.
Background of February 14 Protest
The Hussain Muhammad Ershad-led government introduced a controversial education policy in 1983, prompting mass student protests. On February 14, students marched toward the Bangladesh Secretariat to submit a memorandum against the policy.
During the protest, police opened fire, killing Jafar, Joynal, Deepali, Mozammel, Ayub, and Kanchan, and injuring many others. The education policy was ultimately withdrawn in the face of student and public resistance.
Since then, February 14 has been observed as the Day of Resistance to Dictatorship in Bangladesh.
