Dhaka, Feb 15 (V7N) – The ongoing political dialogue with the National Consensus Commission will determine "what kind of Bangladesh we want," said Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor of the interim government.

Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road on Saturday (February 15) afternoon, Shafiqul Alam emphasized the historical significance of the meeting, stating that it marks the beginning of the second phase of the interim government's reform process.

Broad Participation in Political Dialogue

The meeting saw participation from around 100 politicians representing 26 political parties and alliances. BNP's delegation was led by Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, while Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by Nayeb-e-Amir Dr. Abdullah Mohammad Taher.

Shafiqul Alam highlighted that all invited parties took part, indicating a broad consensus on the need for political dialogue. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor, stated that the first six months of the interim government marked the completion of its initial phase, and the second phase has now begun with this meeting.

International Support for Reforms

The press secretary further stated that major global powers and the United Nations have expressed support for the reform process. He referenced a recent report by the United Nations Human Rights Commission, which he claimed has exposed serious human rights violations in the past, including state-backed killings and suppression of people's rights.

As the National Consensus Commission moves forward with political discussions, the outcome of this dialogue is expected to shape the roadmap for Bangladesh's democratic transition and the upcoming national elections.
