Dhaka, Feb 16 (V7N) – Police verification will no longer be required for obtaining a passport, announced Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, calling the process harassment.

Speaking at the Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Sunday (February 16), Dr. Yunus said:

"A passport is my civil right. It is a citizen’s identity card. We have now made it a law that police verification is no longer needed for obtaining a passport. These bureaucratic obstacles serve no real purpose and only cause harassment. This practice must end.”

Dr. Yunus emphasized that the government’s success or failure now depends on controlling law and order.

"Maintaining peace and security is the most crucial task in the current situation. The protection of women, children, and minorities must be our top priority," he stated.

Urging District Administrators to act independently and make judgment-based decisions, he added:

"We must work as a team for the entire country. No actions should be taken that could disrupt the collective success of the government during this interim period."

The decision to eliminate police verification aims to streamline passport issuance, ensuring citizens face fewer bureaucratic hurdles in accessing their legal rights.
