Dhaka, Feb 17 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury emphasized that all citizens, not just specific groups, are being monitored under the current system.

Speaking at the 30th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Coast Guard in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday, he reiterated the government’s commitment to reducing public suffering, including the long-standing issue of police verification in passport applications.

"It has been a long-standing desire to remove police verification. The government's goal is to eliminate suffering," he said.

He also addressed concerns regarding Rohingya refugees, stating that passport applications will be cross-checked with the National Identity Card (NID) database to prevent illegal documentation. If necessary, a review will be conducted to identify any Rohingyas who have acquired NIDs fraudulently.

On the issue of corruption, General Jahangir Alam acknowledged it as the country’s biggest problem but claimed significant progress in reducing it over the past six months.

"If I commit corruption, they will write against me too. Corruption has reduced in six months. However, it has not been completely controlled," he noted.

Additionally, he assured that strict action will be taken against law enforcement officers found guilty of police torture, reinforcing the government’s stance on accountability and justice.
