Dhaka, Feb 20 (V7N) – The Ministry of Home Affairs has launched an inquiry into the unusual increase in air ticket prices in Bangladesh, particularly for flights to the Middle East.

At a press briefing on Wednesday evening, Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani clarified that General Sales Agents (GSAs) of airlines are not solely responsible for the price hikes. The statement came ahead of a hearing by the investigation committee at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Ticket Price Disparity: Airfares from Bangladesh to the Middle East remain significantly higher compared to other routes, raising concerns among travelers.

Regulatory Issues: While some regulations are being followed, mismanagement and loopholes in the system have contributed to price instability.

Stakeholder Discussions: The ministry has engaged with GSAs of different airlines to understand the challenges and explore solutions to stabilize ticket prices.

Nasimul Gani emphasized that the government's role is not to set airfares but to investigate irregularities and potential black-market activities. The inquiry committee, formed under the directive of the Chief Advisor's office, aims to ensure fairness in airline ticket pricing and improve transparency in the aviation sector.

The investigation continues, and further measures may be taken based on the committee’s findings.
