Dhaka, Feb 21 (V7N) – Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin has emphasized the need to eliminate discrimination across all sectors, stating that both the Language Movement of 1952 and the July Uprising of 2024 must be acknowledged for their role in shaping the nation's progress.

He made these remarks on Friday (February 21) at a program organized at the Foreign Service Academy in observance of International Mother Language Day.

The Foreign Secretary highlighted the lack of high-quality textbooks, articles, and research journals in Bengali, which limits students' ability to gain knowledge and develop practical skills in their native language.

"Ensuring the practice of the Bengali language is essential for the country's sustainable socio-economic development and prosperity," he added. He also emphasized the importance of cultural equality and the right to education in one's mother tongue.

Dr. Susan Bize, UNESCO Country Director, praised the historic sacrifices of Bengalis in their fight for linguistic rights.

The event was attended by foreign diplomats, scholars, and representatives of various international organizations, underscoring the global significance of International Mother Language Day.
