Dhaka, Mar 05 (V7N) – Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has emphasized the need for Bangladesh's labor law reforms to meet global standards in order to improve the living conditions of millions of workers across various sectors. He made these remarks during a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Labor and Employment on Wednesday (March 5).
Dr. Yunus stressed that positive actions must be taken and that excuses are not acceptable. He highlighted that aligning the labor law reforms with international standards would directly improve the lives of workers in different industries. Additionally, he instructed that insurance benefits and healthcare be provided to workers to ensure their well-being.
During the meeting, Special Envoy Lutfe Siddiqui noted that Bangladesh has made significant progress in the labor sector, with positive developments in some areas. However, he pointed out that experts have identified certain areas where further improvements are necessary.
The meeting also discussed the upcoming 353rd session of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from March 10 to 20. Bangladesh's delegation to the session will be led by Brigadier General (Retd.) M. Sakhawat Hossain, the Labor and Employment Adviser.
