Dhaka, April 21, (V7N) – The Women’s Affairs Reform Commission (WARC) has urged the interim government to ensure a minimum of one-third female representation in all local government offices as part of a broader set of reform proposals.

WARC Chairperson Shireen Parveen Haque submitted the recommendations to Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus during a meeting at the Chief Adviser’s Office in Jamuna on Saturday (April 19), accompanied by other commission members.

The commission submitted a total of 15 comprehensive recommendations aimed at promoting gender equality, strengthening legal protections, and empowering women across all sectors of society.

Key proposals include: Constitutional recognition of women’s rights,Inclusive governance at national and local levels,Increased female representation in public administration, media, and the economy,Violence prevention through legal reforms,Decentralized development to uphold women’s interests,Access to education, healthcare, technology, and social security,Empowerment in sports, culture, and disaster resilience

WARC emphasized the urgent need for the government to review and strengthen laws aimed at preventing violence against women and children.

The recommendations span key areas under themes such as equality and legal protection, institutional reform, economic participation, safe migration, health and education, and media representation, all designed to foster a violence-free and equitable society for women and girls.
