RAJSHAHI, March 28, (V7N) — Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that upcoming constitutional amendments will prioritize the expectations of the people and the aspirations of the martyrs of the student‑mass uprising.
Speaking to journalists after the closing parade of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah on Saturday, the minister emphasized that all amendment processes would be carried out through consensus, based on the July National Charter signed among political parties.
He announced the formation of a Constitution Reform Committee to hold detailed discussions and draft proposals. Responding to a question on the possible inclusion of Ziaur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence, Salahuddin said the matter would be reviewed by the committee.
“We will proceed based on the July National Charter, giving due importance to the current expectations of the people and the dreams of the martyrs of the July Uprising,” he said, adding that the final decision would follow the constitutional process, including readings in parliament.
Addressing the certificate distribution ceremony as chief guest, the minister told the newly commissioned officers: “This uniform is not merely a symbol of power—it represents responsibility, sacrifice, and service.” He urged them to serve with honesty, courage, and humanity.
He congratulated the members of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch on completing their training and wished them success in their careers.
Inspector General of Police Md. Ali Hossain Fakir and Academy Principal (Additional IGP) G M Azizur Rahman were present at the programme.
