London, June 12 (V7N) — Chief Advisor to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has made it clear that he has no intention of taking part in the government that will be formed after the next national election. He emphasized that his administration’s sole responsibility is to ensure a peaceful, fair, and credible transfer of power through the upcoming elections.

Dr. Yunus made the remarks during a question-and-answer session following his speech at the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) in London on Wednesday.

Responding to a journalist’s question about whether he intended to join or lead the next democratically elected government, Dr. Yunus stated, "Our responsibility is to ensure that the transition currently underway is completed properly and that the people are satisfied with the process when we hand over power."

“We want to ensure that the election is properly conducted. This is a very important issue for us,” he added.

Earlier, addressing a policy dialogue organized by Chatham House, Dr. Yunus expressed confidence that Bangladesh would witness its most beautiful, fair, and acceptable election in 17 years.

He also announced that before the elections, a ‘July Charter’ would be formulated based on the consensus of all parties. Additionally, he pledged visible trials for those responsible for the July-August massacre.

Commenting on the role of the youth, Dr. Yunus said, “The youth of Bangladesh did not shed their blood simply to elect a new government. Their sacrifice was for a greater cause—justice and democracy.”
