Dhaka, Nov 05 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Army has expressed confidence that the upcoming elections will help restore stability and maintain law and order across the country.
Lieutenant General Md. Mainur Rahman, General Officer Commanding of the Army Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (GOC ArtDoc), made the remarks at a press conference at the Officers’ Mess in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday afternoon.
He stated that while the army’s primary responsibility in peacetime is to prepare for war, the forces have been deployed for election duties for the past 15 months, which has disrupted training schedules. He assured that the army remains loyal to its leadership and warned against social media propaganda questioning the army’s integrity.
Lieutenant General Rahman said that 90,000 to 120,000 soldiers will be deployed to ensure smooth elections. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to recover lost weapons and ammunition, reporting that 81% of weapons and 73% of ammunition have already been retrieved.
In addition, the army has apprehended more than 19,000 criminals, including individuals involved in juvenile gangs, robberies, and extortion, as part of maintaining national security.
The army emphasized that truth will counter misinformation, and it is committed to ensuring fair and peaceful elections.
