Dhaka, Nov 09 (V7N) — Bangladesh has criticized recent remarks made by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, calling them “unwarranted” and “disrespectful to diplomatic decorum.”
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson SM Mahbubul Alam, in a statement on Saturday, said, “We consider Rajnath Singh’s comments neither appropriate nor constructive. They fail to show the respect expected in diplomatic relations.”
The comments by Rajnath Singh were made during an exclusive interview with Rahul Joshi, Editor-in-Chief of India’s Network18 Group. In the interview, Singh advised Dr. Yunus to “exercise caution in his statements.” Singh also emphasized, “We do not seek any tension with Bangladesh, but Yunus must be careful with his words.” The interview was published on Friday by the Indian media outlet Firstpost, part of the Network18 Group.
Responding to the remarks, Alam reiterated that Bangladesh remains committed to maintaining mutually beneficial relations with India based on sovereign equality, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, and mutual respect.
He further added, “Bangladesh believes that differences in perspective are best resolved through constructive and respectful dialogue.”
In his interview, Rajnath Singh emphasized that India does not seek any conflict with Bangladesh, underscoring the importance of maintaining peaceful bilateral relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the comments have been formally noted, and Dhaka continues to advocate for dialogue and cooperation as the primary means to address any differences between the two countries.
