Dhaka, Nov 13 (V7N) — Law enforcement agencies have intensified security measures across the capital ahead of the announcement of the verdict date in the crimes against humanity case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the International Crimes Tribunal.
On Thursday morning, a heavy presence of police, RAB, and BGB was seen at key points in Dhaka, including major intersections and government installations. Security forces have been instructed to remain on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents or activities by the banned Awami League.
Traffic movement in the capital was notably thin, with a significantly lower number of private vehicles on the roads compared to regular days. However, business establishments and educational institutions remained open and continued operating normally.
Leaders and activists of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and their allied parties were also seen stationed alongside law enforcement personnel at several locations across the city. They held brief protest marches condemning the Awami League’s announced “lockdown” program.
According to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) sources, about 17,000 officers have been deployed at important points and installations throughout Dhaka. In addition, members of the Army, BGB, and various specialized police units are assisting in maintaining law and order.
