Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep regret over the ongoing killings in Gaza, emphasizing the lack of effective measures being taken to halt the violence during a meeting with Secretary General of the Fateh Movement of Palestine, Lt. General Jebreel Alrjoub, at her official residence Ganabhaban.
In her remarks, Sheikh Hasina criticized human rights organizations for their silence regarding the Israeli attacks on Gaza, denouncing it as a form of hypocrisy. She underscored the importance of unity among the Muslim Ummah, emphasizing that solidarity is crucial for the security and well-being of Palestinians.
The prime minister reiterated Bangladesh's unwavering support for Palestine, condemning the Israeli forces' attacks on hospitals and the killing of civilians, including women and children, in Gaza. She called for an immediate ceasefire and recalled Bangladesh's provision of relief assistance to Palestine through Egypt.
Sheikh Hasina also recalled the historic visit of Yasser Arafat to Bangladesh during the Awami League regime in 1997, highlighting the long-standing solidarity between the two nations.
Lt. General Jebreel Alrjoub expressed gratitude for Sheikh Hasina's steadfast support and advocacy for Palestinians in various international forums. He stressed the urgent need for food assistance in Gaza and reiterated the call for the recognition of Palestine as a state, emphasizing that unity among Arab countries is crucial to ending the oppression faced by Palestinians.
Highlighting the significance of regional stability and global peace, Lt. General Alrjoub underscored the importance of halting the war in Gaza. He thanked Bangladesh for its strong role in the International Court of Justice in South Africa and presented a letter from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The meeting was attended by PM's Principal Secretary M Tofazzel Hossain Miah and the Palestine Ambassador.
