Dhaka, Nov 22 (V7N) — Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed emphasized the critical role of the judiciary in maintaining the constitution, state, and democracy. Speaking in a written address at the Bay of Bengal Conversation, organized by the Center for Governance Studies on Saturday morning, he said, “If the judiciary fails, the constitution becomes silent. If this department fails, the state and democracy will also fail.”
The Chief Justice highlighted that the judiciary faces its greatest test during global crises and instability. He stressed that reforming the judicial system is essential not merely for appearances but to safeguard justice and democracy. He recalled the July Revolution, noting that transparency, accountability, and public engagement were central to its mission.
At the same event, Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Towhid Hossain addressed the ongoing Rohingya issue, describing it as a significant regional challenge. He noted that Bangladesh is prioritizing national interests while strengthening ties with major countries in the Bay of Bengal region.
