Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that overall preparations for the upcoming national elections are progressing well, with all necessary measures being taken to ensure a festive, fair and acceptable voting environment.

He made the remarks on Monday following a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Law and Order at the Secretariat.

Speaking to reporters, the advisor said that preparations for the election are “very good” and that members of all law enforcement agencies are currently undergoing training, which will be completed by January. He said various steps are being implemented to ensure a transparent and peaceful election, including the use of body cameras by law enforcement personnel during voting.

He also assured that uninterrupted power supply will be ensured at every polling center during the election.

Referring to concerns about law and order ahead of the polls, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that crime cannot be eliminated overnight. “I do not have any magic to switch off crime instantly. It doesn’t work that way,” he said, adding that efforts to control crime will continue.

Regarding the Jatiya Party, the home affairs advisor said that all political parties are now active across the country. However, he noted that some parties prefer not to engage in open political activities and instead operate from their homes, citing problems related to party offices.

He further said that strict instructions have been issued to identify and arrest those responsible for the recent murder of a freedom fighter and his wife in Rangpur, stressing that the government is treating the incident with utmost seriousness.
