Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N) — Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, has called upon everyone to move forward in building a new Bangladesh by following the ideals of Begum Rokeya.

He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at the Begum Rokeya Day program held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.

Begum Rokeya Day is being officially observed this year under the title “I Am Rokeya”, with the event organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.

At the program, the Chief Advisor announced that the name of the ministry would be changed to the Ministry of Women and Children.

This year, four distinguished women were awarded the Rokeya Medal in recognition of their outstanding contributions to women’s awakening in different fields. The recipients are Dr Ruvana Rakib for research in women’s education, Kalpana Akhtar for women’s rights, Dr Nabila Idris for human rights, and national footballer Rituparna Chakma for women’s awakening. Dr Yunus formally presented the medals to the awardees.

In his speech, Professor Yunus said that Begum Rokeya showed the path toward building a just and progressive society. “The awardees will take us forward on the same path that Begum Rokeya envisioned for society,” he added.

He also emphasized that following Rokeya’s ideals is essential for ensuring women’s empowerment and building an inclusive and equitable Bangladesh.
