Dhaka, Dec 09 (V7N) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AM Nasir Uddin has requested the Chief Justice to appoint 300 judges as executive magistrates to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.
On Tuesday afternoon, the CEC met Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Supreme Court and sought the judiciary’s cooperation to hold a free and fair election. The Chief Justice assured full support. Following tradition, CECs meet the Chief Justice prior to announcing the national election schedule. Notably, CEC Nasir Uddin attended the meeting alone, accompanied only by his secretary.
Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Machud confirmed that the schedule for the 13th parliamentary elections and the referendum will be announced either this evening or tomorrow, after a meeting with the President. He added that the CEC will urge all stakeholders, including political parties, to cooperate for holding the elections on schedule.
Earlier in the day, the CEC also met with the Chief Justice to discuss overall election preparations.
