Dhaka, Dec 12 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) has issued a revised notification adjusting parliamentary constituencies, increasing one seat in Bagerhat district while reducing one seat in Gazipur district. The notification was released late Thursday night at 11:00 p.m.

The EC stated that under Sections 6 and 8 of the Parliamentary Constituencies Delimitation Act, 2021, an initial list of redefined constituencies was published on July 30. Following this, claims, objections, suggestions, and opinions were invited regarding the proposed constituency boundaries.

According to the EC, public hearings were held on the submissions on August 18. After reviewing the applications and considering the arguments presented, the EC finalized the necessary modifications and published the final list of redefined parliamentary constituencies on September 4.

The revised notification follows a High Court ruling on a writ petition challenging constituency adjustments. The court upheld the boundaries from serial number 95 to 98 in Bagerhat district and from 194 to 198 in Gazipur district as per the June 1, 2023 gazette. Following the High Court and Supreme Court Appellate Division decisions, the EC partially amended its previous notification. The updated list now reflects 300 parliamentary seats with one additional seat in Bagerhat and one fewer in Gazipur.

The EC emphasized that the adjustments are in strict compliance with the legal directives and court rulings, ensuring clarity and fairness in electoral representation.
