Dhaka, Dec 16 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Election Commission on Monday night issued a clarification regarding remarks made by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin on the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, following what it described as widespread misinterpretation in the media and on social platforms.

In a press statement sent to the media, the Commission said it had taken note of reports quoting a portion of the Chief Election Commissioner’s comments made earlier in the day in response to journalists’ questions. The remarks were given after the CEC attended an event in the capital, where he was asked about the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi.

According to the Election Commission, the Chief Election Commissioner has given the attack on Osman Hadi the highest priority. As part of this response, the Commission held an emergency meeting on Sunday afternoon, December 14, with senior officials from the law enforcement agencies. During the meeting, the CEC instructed authorities to identify and bring the attackers to justice as quickly as possible and to take strict legal action against those responsible.

The Commission expressed deep concern over the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi and issued firm directives to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future. It emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain law and order during the election period.

The statement further explained that the Chief Election Commissioner’s remarks were intended to convey that the terrorist attack on Osman Hadi would not be allowed to disrupt the upcoming election process. The Commission also wished for Osman Hadi’s speedy recovery and expressed its sincere sympathy to his family.

The Election Commission said it believes the clarification will remove any misunderstanding regarding the Chief Election Commissioner’s comments and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and fair electoral environment.
