Dhaka, Dec 23 (V7N) — Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Grigorievich Khozin has called for an immediate reduction of tensions between neighboring countries Bangladesh and India, emphasizing the need for stability and mutual trust in bilateral relations.
The ambassador made the remarks on Monday during a press conference held at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Dhaka, according to state-run news agency BSS. Stressing the urgency of the situation, he said it was important to defuse the existing tensions as quickly as possible.
Khozin clarified that Russia would not interfere in the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India. However, he cautioned against allowing the current situation to escalate further, noting that relations between neighboring countries should be guided by mutual confidence, trust, and cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy welcomed the announcement of the schedule for Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election. The ambassador expressed hope that the election would be held on time and that a peaceful environment would prevail in the country ahead of the February 12 polls.
Responding to a question about election observers, Khozin said Russia is maintaining communication with the Election Commission and is awaiting a formal invitation to send observers to Bangladesh for the upcoming parliamentary election.
He reaffirmed Russia’s expectation that the electoral process would be conducted in a calm and orderly manner, contributing to political stability in the country.
