Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury emphasized the need for collective action to prevent river encroachment and pollution.

Speaking at a roundtable discussion on "Climate Change, Water, and Sanitation" held at the Kalbela Conference Room in New Market, the minister stressed the crucial role of river preservation for the country's sustainable development.

Chowdhury highlighted the interconnectedness of river governance, climate change, and water-related issues, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing water, salinity, and climate considerations for Bangladesh's development.

He informed the audience about the Green and Climate Resilience Development Policy adopted through the Ministry of Planning, which aims to consolidate all plans and investments related to climate change onto a unified platform.

The minister disclosed that a significant allocation of Taka 37,000 crore has been earmarked across 25 ministries to address the climate crisis in the current fiscal year.

Chaired by Kalbela's editor and publisher, Santosh Sharma, the roundtable discussion featured contributions from various dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Ferdous Ahmed, Additional Chief Engineer Tushar Mohan Sadhu Khan, Country Director of Water Aid Bangladesh Hasin Jahan, and Professor Mujibur Rahman of United International University.
